Waqf Bill | Waqf: From 'Reform' To 'Perform'

Waqf Amendment Bill | We have seen two days of intense discussions over the Waqf amendment bill. It was passed by the Lok Sabha well after midnight on Wednesday, and today a replay of that is expected in the Rajya Sabha. But what does the future hold? What will it take for the Waqf Act to be the measure of reform that is being seen as? There needs to be awareness, trust and confidence building, but more than that the sheer logistics of it. There are 872,324 immovable Waqf properties. It is one of the largest repositories of religious and community-owned land globally. Will there be speedier disposal of cases? How will State Waqf boards work in tandem with central Waqf councils? As the law will not have any retrospective impact, will there be a clean up of the backlog of cases?
