With the election results throwing a mega surprise and the BJP falling well short of the halfway mark, the country is staring at a coalition government in the truest sense of the word after a decade. It was for the first time since the 1991 economic reforms, that a party enjoyed a majority mandate when the Narendra Modi led BJP government came to power in 2014. It carved a reputation for itself for taking seemingly 'difficult', sometimes controversial decisions such as demonetisation, the implementation of GST and farm laws, for that matter. The prospect of a coalition government has initiated a debate on the ability of the new dispensation to push for economic reforms.
