Will The Oil Spill Off Chennai Impact Marine Life?
It has been eight days since 20 tonnes of oil leaked off the coast of Chennai after two ships collided with each other. Thick sludge is still visible along the 250-metre rocky coast near Ennore, on the outskirts of Chennai. While the Coast Guard and the government seem confident that the sludge will be cleaned up in the next few days, it is still unclear what the impact will be on the environment and marine life.
