PM Awas Yojana - Urban: Hits And Misses

The NDA 3.0 government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the construction of three crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), including one crore in urban areas to tackle housing shortages. PMAY-Urban improved housing for low-income families, but the deficit persists among India's urban poor in major cities. Developers are not constructing affordable housing due to high land, construction, and FSI costs, and despite PMAY-Urban's best efforts and ten times more sanction of homes, than during UPA tenure, it has not successfully narrowed the gap in affordable housing for those without land or capital, in megacities of India.  Can the extension of PMAY-U and an additional 1 crore homes be targeted at urban poor?
