Facts Debunk Claims Over Minimum Support Price
The farmer protests have led to an intense focus on minimum support price or MSP. The protesting farmers fear that the new farm laws will dilute government-run mandis where the government makes most of its wheat and rice purchases, and therefore will dilute the MSP. In response, supporters of the law have argued that MSP will remain. Farmers who are making these demands are mainly big farmers, from Punjab and Haryana, who have cornered government purchases.
