7 years ago politicians across party lines in Maharashtra banned dance bars. Their take: Dance bars corrupted the youth, the police force and exploited young women who worked in them. In a big jolt to Maharashtra's moral policing, the Supreme Court has revoked the 7-year-old ban on dance bars. While bar girls celebrate and politicians go into a huddle, what has the 7-year-old ban accomplished? Many bar dancers were pushed into low-grade prostitution after the ban.
