Life in a circus is a heady mix of snatched moments before show time, silent prayers to guard against accidents and a colourful whirl of costumes and make-up. But it's not all high kicks and mid-air somersaults. New recruits are hard to come by, not least because of rumours of sexual abuse of young performers by circus owners. But, at sundown, the show must go on.
