Over 400 people have been killed in the floods in Kerala and the government has estimated the preliminary statewide destruction to around Rs 20,000 Crore. Around 7,000 houses were fully destroyed, over 10,000 kilometres of roads were damaged and the human cost of the tragedy was beyond measure. But after this catastrophe, Kerala is slowly returning to normalcy many weeks after one of the worst floods hit in a century. Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki are some of the most affected districts. The present reality of these districts is worse than a nightmare for the people who are returning to their homes.
