As the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 knock at doors, Lakshadweep is gearing up for the mega polls. People in large numbers are returning to their native places in the UT to cast their votes. State Election Icon for PwD (People with Disability) Umer Farooq onboard said that he would be encouraging more and more people to participate in elections. One of the passengers who is also the brother of NCP (Sharad Pawar Faction) MP PP Mohammed Faizal called voting important and exuded confidence in his brother's victory. Another passenger said that he was travelling to Andrott island for Eid and would later travel to Agatti to cast his vote. Meanwhile, PP Mohammed Faizal whose party lost its name, and symbol in early February 2024 said it won't affect results. The mass movement of people to their native places ahead of mega election is seen as ripple effect of PM Modi's visit to the Islands. Administration too is constantly supporting people providing water vessel movement as the UT has always had high percentage of polling. The Lakshadweep constituency, which is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, will go to the polls on April 19 in a single phase. The general elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases, with the first scheduled for April 19. The counting of votes has been scheduled for June 4.
