PM surveys flood-hit Bihar, doles out Rs 1,000 cr relief

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has declared the Bihar floods a national calamity and has announced immediate release of 1.25 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains for affected people. The PM also announced immediate release of Rs 1,000-crore flood relief for the state. The decision was taken after Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi undertook an aerial survey of the flood affected four districts of Bihar where the swollen Kosi river continued to wreak havoc.
