The militants and the Army had been fighting for the past nine days in Poonch. On Thursday afternoon, the Army called off the operation when there was no firing for quite some time, and it became clear that the terrorists were not in the area any more. The Army has released a statement that the operation was over, but it is not clear what exactly happened. Nor do they seem to have an explanation for how their estimates have been so off the mark.
