Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for petitioner Association for Democratic Reforms which was seeking thorough cross-verification of votes cast on Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) with paper slips generated through the VVPAT system, explained the Supreme Court verdict in the case. He said, "The court has not accepted our demands but has directed the Election Commission to see if QR codes can be put on VVPAT slips for their mechanical verification by a counting machine". A 2-judge bench of the top court today rejected all petitions seeking a return of the ballot paper system and 100% verification of votes cast on EVMs.
