In shocking comments made at an academic conference in the state on Saturday, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, claiming to quote pre-Independence Congress leader Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, said the "partition had swept away dirt... but some potholes (were) still stinking". The comment was part of a speech in which he supported the controversial citizenship law and that kicked up a massive row at the event, with several delegates launching spontaneous protests. "You have come with an agenda. You cannot shout me down," he shot back, accusing them of intolerance. In a video of the incident, a delegate can be heard saying Mr Khan had an agenda, "India is not Pakistan".
