A large number of school students protested in front of Manipur Raj Bhavan in Imphal today against the government's decision to shut down educational institutions in the state due to escalating violence. The protest was held against the backdrop of recent drone and missile attacks in the Imphal valley that killed three people.
Thousands of people from the Kuki-Zo tribe came out on the streets of Kangpokpi district headquarters today, protesting against the proposed removal of the 9 and 22 Battalions of Assam Rifles Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.
A day after personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) thwarted an attack by armed gunmen on their camp in Manipur's Kangpokpi, a senior CRPF officer said there was "rapid and random" firing on the roof of the camp and a befitting reply was given to the attackers.
Internet services are suspended in only five valley districts for five days, and not the entire state, the Manipur government said in an amended order on Tuesday evening in the wake of intensified agitation by students.
