After hectic behind-the-scenes diplomacy about 5 months ago, Dr S Jaishankar's visit to Qatar comes after the Gulf nation released eight former Indian Navy personnel. Qatar is home to an 8 lakh-strong Indian expat community. India imports gas from Qatar and it has emerged as an important commercial partner with two-way trade currently worth $20 billion a year.
