Bharat Biotech has started the first phase of human clinical trials for India's first coronavirus vaccine candidate Covaxin. The vaccine is being developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research's Pune-based National Institute of Virology. Volunteers at 14 locations across India will be administered small doses of the vaccine. One of the testing centres is PGIMS Rohtak. We spoke to Dr Dhruva Chaudhry, Professor and Chair, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine who is heading the project there. He said they had a huge number of people volunteer for the study. He said there is pressure on the government to deliver a vaccine soon, but safety will not be compromised.
