Raging 'Language War' In Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister, Governor Spar Over NEP

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, who is already at loggerheads with the DMK government, joined the language war on Friday, saying the state's persistent policy of teaching students Tamil and English, deprived youngsters of opportunities. The DMK promptly hit back with Minister S Reghupathy asking the Governor not to teach Tamils love for their language. The governor's remarks have come at a time when the state's Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, is in the middle of a tussle with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre over the perceived imposition of Hindi under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Is this a language war that is being fuelled for political purposes or a question of a state's identity and autonomy? How will the Governor's intervention now impact the political play out of this matter? This is what we discuss today.
