Rahul Gandhi calls ordinance on convicted lawmakers 'nonsense'; huge embarrassment for PM
Rahul Gandhi's dramatic declaration that an ordinance hurriedly pushed by the government to protect convicted MPs and MLAs is "complete nonsense," has put Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in an embarrassing spot while away in the US.
Sources say the Congress-led government is now likely to withdraw its ordinance, after Mr Gandhi, the party's vice-president, suggested at a press conference that it "should be torn up and thrown away."
