Rahul Gandhi vs RSS: Should He Apologise Or Face Trial?

In the 2014 election campaign, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi accused the RSS of killing Mahatma Gandhi - a comment that drew a furious reaction from the RSS, which sued him for defamation. For years now, the RSS has tried to distance itself from the assassin, Nathuram Godse. They say he had left the organisation long before he killed Gandhi. An inquiry commission later, in 1966, said the RSS did create conditions conducive to strong anti-Gandhi sentiments, but acquitted the RSS of direct involvement. Today, while hearing the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court rebuked the Congress leader saying "you can't make collective denunciations." The court has observed that Rahul Gandhi could face trial, as he refused to apologise for what he said in 2014. The Congress is standing firm, saying he will never say sorry.
