Rains drive farmer to suicide in Orissa
Monsoon rains have brought cheer to some and misery to many. In Orissa, a young farmer ended his life after heavy rains damaged the paddy crop he had just reaped. With a loan burden of 30,000 rupees on his head the 31-year-old Abani Palai could not recover from the shock. A fortnight ago Abani thought he had a bumber crop. But heavy rains dashed all his hopes. His three-acre field was washed away.
