The nomination of Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha by the Congress has sparked off an unprecedented political furore, also dramatically polarising public opinion. This despite the fact that 12 out of the 250 members in the Upper House are traditionally nominated on the basis of their achievements and contribution to the society. Hence, we debate whether Sachin's nomination is an indicator of the rising celebrity quotient in the Rajya Sabha or is it just a narrative created by the media.
