Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has proposed a radical plan to check traffic violations. In a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he has proposed index-linked insurance premiums in order to deter traffic violations and improve road safety. Mr Saxena has said that vehicle frequently challaned for traffic offences such as speeding, jumping red lights, and rash driving, must be made to pay higher insurance premiums. This financial deterrent would encourage better driving behaviour as there is an obvious co-relation between repeat traffic offences and the risk of accidents, he has said.
