A computer engineer turned social worker has emerged as a ray of hope for orphan children in Kashmir. The 28-year old Qurat ul Ain Masoodi, who left engineering for rebuilding the lives of orphans living in unregistered orphanages which are short on facilities and lack hygiene, faced criticism for venturing out in a field considered alien for girls in Kashmir, where the number of orphanages has substantially gone up since militancy broke out in the late eighties.
