"Relevant Authorities Said Don't Grant Remission": Bilkis Bano's Lawyer
When asked whether or not someone such as Bilkis Bano, who had been subject to such a heinous crime, should have been legally informed that the perpetrators of the offence against her were being released, her lawyer Shobha Gupta said, "We are arguing the same thing in the Supreme Court that the law clearly stipulates that the survivor needs to be consulted. But they didn't. How could you not consult the survivor? The witnesses and Bilkis Bano said there would be a threat to life if they are released. Five of the relevant authorities said don't grant remission."
