Republic At 70: Is India's Democracy In Danger?
Over the last few months, beginning with the government's actions in Kashmir to the CAA, now India's democratic credentials are being questioned. This week, India slipped 10 places on a key world democracy index and The Economist has a cover story on India 'intolerant', while billionaire George Soros has made scathing comments on what he says is India becoming a Hindu nationalist state. The BJP may say it doesn't care what foreign publications write but they go out of their way to highlight positive coverage and the Prime Minister himself has written editorial pieces for the New York times which has been extremely critical of his government recently.
