Reservations over quota: Welfare or tokenism?
Law minister Salman Khurshid well and truly set the cat amongst the pigeons by announcing at an election rally that the Congress will bring in nine per cent reservation for backward Muslims in Uttar Pradesh if they come to power. The Election Commission has issued notices to him and his wife based on a BJP complaint. The BJP said that religion based reservation is unconstitutional. However, for the Congress reaching out to minorities is a major part of their election game plan.
