Kicking off the first full day of his second term in office, President Donald Trump attended the traditional interfaith inaugural prayer service Tuesday at the Washington National Cathedral. The National Cathedral has hosted 10 official inaugural prayer services for presidents of both parties. This year, the Right Rev. Mariann Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, gave a sermon focused on national unity and pointedly implored Trump to "have mercy on LGBTQ+ people and undocumented migrant workers. "You have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared now," she said.
