A day after the draft rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, were released Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said the Centre has managed to balance innovation and regulation. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, he said, "Our digital economy is, today, a very significant part of the total economy… Our approach is one where the citizens' rights are properly protected and, at the same time, innovators should get an opportunity to work." On the privacy of children, the minister said, "To safeguard children's privacy, we have created a pragmatic system to make verification of age possible, using virtual tokens... We are confident this can evolve into a model other nations can follow."
