The government may have jumped into the gas dispute between Reliance Industries and RNRL asking for the stay to be lifted and allow a higher price to RIL, but now the move may backfire since its own company NTPC will also have no option but to pay a higher price. In its rejoinder the government says the price fixed in 2004 cannot be taken as the basis of fixing the price. It also says that the government never approved the prices fixed in 2004.
