In the just-concluded parliament session, the big issue was the Citizen's Register in Assam that led to the standoff between the government and the opposition especially with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. As soon as parliament was over, BJP President Amit Shah headed to Kolkata and held a major rally to attack Ms Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress chief, on this point. He said he wanted to uproot the government to bring in real 'parivartan' or change. He also said that the only reason Mamata Banerjee was speaking on the issue was because Bangladeshis are her vote bank. The Trinamool Congress hit back, asking the BJP chief to apologise for saying that the Trinamool government was corrupt.
