Russian gas exports through Ukraine's pipelines ceased on New Year's Day, marking the end of Moscow's longstanding dominance in Europe's energy market. The halt, announced by Gazprom, follows Ukraine's choice not to renew its transit agreement. Unlike the 2022 energy crisis, Europe is better prepared with alternative suppliers such as Norway, the US, and Qatar.
