All the policies concerning our rivers were about how to share the waters. Now we are talking about how to revitalise our rivers. Ganga contributes towards 33 percent of India's agriculture but in the last few years 94 percent of the forest cover near the Ganga basin has been removed. India's river waters are forest fed and only four percent of water in India is glacial. Unless there are forests, we can't sustain rivers, which would ultimately lead to floods. Droughts are caused due to lack of vegetation along the banks of rivers.
