Satish Gujral has many faces. All of them creative. A painter, sculptor, muralist, architect and writer, this colossus has dominated the Indian art scene for decades. If a Satish Gujral painting on your wall is a status symbol, the acclaim he has won as an architect is no less.
The Belgium Embassy in New Delhi, which he designed, has been selected by the international forum of architects as one of the world's 1000 best built buildings of the 20th century.
Delhi honoured one of its most accomplished citizens by naming Gujral on a list of 25 people who brought the city on the world map in the last 50 years. He received India's second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan, in 1999.
