What began as large gatherings in Tamil Nadu over Jallikattu, a bull-taming sport, have now become a massive protest, but fortunately peaceful. Thousands, primarily students, assembled on Marina Beach and other parts of Tamil Nadu to make the point that the Supreme Court ban on the traditional celebration is not acceptable to them. It's a battle between an order by the highest court of the land and the pride of young Tamilians. There are no political parties to instigate these protests, they are all spontaneous. AIADMK chief Sasikala Natarajan has said she will ask the center for an ordinance to lift the ban. Chief Minister O Panneerselvam is meeting the Prime Minister tomorrow. The protestors want the original petitioners in the case - the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA India - to be banned in Tamil Nadu. On The Buck Stops Here we look at the issue politically and legally. Will the Centre oblige the Tamil Nadu government?
