Any inter-planetary mission would be incomplete if it were not mapping the resources of a new region. India's Mangalyaan is carrying on it a very special thermometer called 'Thermal Infrared Imaging Spectrometer' that will look for the cold and hot spots on Mars through which R P Singh, an ISRO scientist, hopes to map the mineral resources of Mars since each mineral has a special thermal signature. Speaking exclusively to NDTV's Science Editor Pallava Bagla, he says is it exciting to map minerals of another planet some 200 million kilometres away.
