Sheonath's inheritence of loss
The river on the banks of which the first big controversy erupted, is none other than Sheonath in Chattisgarh. It was India's maiden experiment with privatisation of rivers. In 1998, in undivided Madhya Pradesh, the then Congress government had handed over nearly 24 kilometres of the river to a private company by the name of Radius Water Limited on a 20 year lease.
