Bengal has been burning as Waqf Amendment Act protests turned deadly-in Murshidabad, then Malda, and now South 24 Parganas, leaving three dead. Trinamool minister Firhad Hakim has created controversy by downplaying the violence and claiming that there was internal migration within Bengal. PM Modi accused Congress of "appeasement politics" stating that if the party has "some sympathy" for Muslims, they should appoint party chief from the community and give 50 per cent tickets in Lok Sabha to members from the main minority community.
