A new order by the National Medical Commission that says that doctors will be penalised for failing to prescribe generic drugs has irked several leading doctors in the country. The NMC is pushing generic drugs over branded drugs in order to make healthcare more accessible to the poor - but doctors say that it is 'against the constitutional rights' of patients to not choose what drug to take - simultaneously raising a big question mark on the quality of care that doctors will be able to provide.
