The Uttar Pradesh Police apologised after three policemen were seen escorting a mob who dragged on the ground an alleged lynching victim. But the department only apologised after a photograph of the incident went viral on social media. The photograph, the police say, was taken a few minutes after the police arrived and tried to take the victims to hospital. They claim the victim was dragged, because there was no ambulance available but say the policemen should have been more sensitive in their conduct. Is this apology from the UP police acceptable? Can the police get away with just an apology or is exemplary action needed to set an example?
