The Tamil Film Producers Council has announced suspending new film productions from the 16th of August and to stop production completely from the first of November. This they hope will pave way for release of backlog films waiting for theatrical release. Citing slump in the industry and a phenomenal rise in production costs due to what they call skyrocketing salary by stars they hope they'd be able to streamline the system. However the South Indian Artistes' Association has slammed this decision calling it unilateral, which could impact large number of actors and other support fields.
