One of the biggest vacuums in classical dance is the absence of coherent archival material where one can look at dance forms, how it evovled, the work of eminent dancers and how they choreographed. And if you do indeed find any archival footage, chances are that it will be badly shot with little sense of dance cinematography. This is why Odissi dancer, Madhavi Mudgal's archiving project becomes a significant one.
