Sikkim: Teesta dams face raging protests
The Sikkim government is building 26 dams on the river Teesta that flows through the state. But the Lepcha community is up in arms against the project, primarily because several of these dams encroach upon bio diversity rich Dzongu Valley, which they believe is the cradle of their civilization. The dams on the Teesta are a matter of life and death for them.
