Recently, due to the harassment by cow vigilantes, meat supply in Goa was disrupted, leading to strikes by meat suppliers, which has in turn affected restaurants in Goa, during the peak tourist season. They have now been assured protection by the police and government. While chief minister Manohar Parrikar has said that legal beef trade will not face difficulties, his colleague and state PWD Minister has said that only 20 per cent of the state eats meat.
