Steelmakers selling power to maintain margins
In these times of crisis and shrinking margins, it is a fight for survival for the country's steel makers who are reeling under pressure of falling prices and rising inventories. Thus, instead of steel they are selling power produced from their captive plants thanks to lower internal consumption. At a merchant price of upto Rs 10 per unit for a short term - a premium over the Rs 3 per unit in case of a long term contract.
