"Steep Slopes, Lack Of Drainage System Behind Joshimath Disaster": Geologist
"This is a fragile situation... One of the reasons is steep slopes covered by loose materials. The second reason is that there is no drainage system in place, which forces the water to percolate," Dr Charu C Pant, retired geologist of Kumaon University, said on "sinking" Joshimath.
