The district of Raigad in Maharashtra, receives plenty of rainfall, but its topography does not allow it to retain the rain water. As a result, there has been water shortage and very often contaminated water is used by the villagers. Water has become one of the most important issues for daily life here. Many have to walk for over a kilometers every day just to fetch water. Because of this, in many areas turnout in schools have become low. With an aim to change this, the Swades Foundation is working towards providing water for drinking and agricultural purposes.
