The Arun Shourie Offensive

Is India's economy finally turning around? That was the focus of a discussion that followed the launch of a book by TN Ninan, Chairman of Business Standard. But in the discussion that followed, moderated by NDTV's Managing Editor Sreenivasan Jain, Arun Shourie, one of the panelists launched a blistering attack on the Narendra Modi government. All the more surprising since he was seen at least until very recently as a very strong advocate of Mr Modi and his policies. But Mr Shourie said there has been no improvement since the NDA came to power, in fact he said NDA is simply the 'Congress plus a cow'. Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser, also present, said the measure of how much a country has grown is a matter of debate. But Mr Shourie was unstoppable, systematically debunking many of the NDA's and Mr Modi's pet schemes, claiming they were simply built on hype.
