Barmer, one of the largest constituencies in India, is witnessing what has become a prestige issue as veteran leader Jaswant Singh who has been denied a ticket takes on his party the BJP. The BJP has fielded Colonel Sona Ram who till two weeks ago was in the Congress. Ironically, he had in the past fought two Lok Sabha elections against Jaswant's son Manvendra for this very seat. But the BJP is banking on Sona Ram’s caste, the Jats, to see him through. As the BJP fights one of its own old soldiers in Barmer, the Congress could just be the gainer.
