India had lost the 1962 war against China even before it began. Defending the heights in Arunachal, then the North East frontier province, and Ladakh is extremely difficult today. Back in 1962, it was almost impossible. The Indian Army was living on a prayer. The bravery of the Indian jawan and his commitment to the respect of his battalion would just not be enough. The Indian Army was completely outgunned, completely outnumbered.
