Post note ban, the BJP is on a winning spree. Barring the setback in Punjab, BJP has won handsomely in UP and Uttarakhand, formed government in Goa and Manipur, became the largest party in Maharashtra's municipal and Zilla Parishad polls, dislodged Congress from being the main opposition in Odisha's municipal and panchayat polls, and trounced AAP in Delhi civic polls. What explains BJP's winning spree? Is it the Modi factor or is it due to the fact that there is no viable opposition at the national level?
The second and the most important issue is the discourse and the focus of the governance. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks about development, governance, fight against corruption and black money, it's the fringe on the ground which is at times overshadowing PM Modi's development agenda. Is there a subtext to the path this government is following?
